Sigma seeks changes to PBS

Company News

Sigma Pharmaceutical Limited (ASX:SIP) has warned against bypassing wholesalers as rival Pfizer deals directly with pharmacies.

The drug wholesaler and retailer is moving for legislative change to guarantee products listed on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (PBS) to be made available to wholesalers.

The PBS subsidises the cost of medicines to the public.

Sigma’s chief says, the company will continue with its efforts to seek regulatory change to ensure all PBS medicines are available via community service obligation wholesalers.

Sigma Pharmaceuticals posted a net profit of $49.2million for the year ending January 31, 2012.
