ACCC approves Virgin Singapore alliance

Company News

Virgin Blue Holdings Limited’s (ASX:VBA) alliance with Singapore Airlines has been authorised by Australia’s competition regulator.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has given the green light for the partnership that will see the airlines codeshare on each other's international and domestic flights and co-ordinate flight schedules.

The ACCC believes the alliance is likely to increase competition for international air passenger services.

The regulator says the ability to offer a comprehensive network and enhanced frequent flyer and lounge products is likely to be attractive to corporate and government passengers.

In the 2011 financial year Virgin Blue booked a net loss of $67.8 million.
