Wellard Limited (ASX:WLD) has announced it has made its first shipment of beef steers from Australia to China.

Approximately 2000 Angus-cross cattle were sourced from Victoria and South Australia and will land in Shidao, in the Chinese Province of Shandong.

The cattle will be quarantined and processed in a purpose built facility that has been Exporter Supply Chain Assurance Scheme accredited.

Wellard Executive Director of Operations Fred Troncone said the shipment was a product of the Australia China Free Trade Agreement, which took years to negotiate, and both governments should be congratulated on their foresights and willingness to open trade between the two countries.

Shares in Wellard Limited (ASX:WLD) are trading 12.5 per cent higher at $0.14
