NSW Housing Minister, David Borger explains how the government as the long term owner of 6% of the State’s housing stock incorporates green building design into its properties. For private sector housing, the building code requires houses conform to minimum standards. Ultimately however it’s the consumer that needs to consider the capital and running costs of building big properties with single purpose rooms and whether this is justifiable as they downsize over time.
