BHP (ASX: BHP) revives Chile project

Company News

BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) is expected to revive billions of dollars worth of projects in Chile, that it froze during the worst of the global financial crisis.

BHP says it's likely to resume its Phase V project at its Escondida deposit in Chile, which is the world's biggest copper mine, and may also build a desalinization and an electricity plant.

While the projects had initially been estimated at $8.4 billion, they've yet to be decided on and their values are under review.

BHP Billiton achieved $7.2 billion net profit in 2009.
