Leighton Holdings Ltd (ASX:LEI) awarded a $140 million contract extension

Infrastructure and engineering company Leighton Holdings Ltd (ASX:LEI) has been awarded a $140 million Queensland coal mining contract extension.

Leighton subsidiary Thiess has been awarded the contract for the Tarong Coal Project-Meandu mine located in Kingaroy, in QLD’s Burnett region.

Thiess was originally awarded the contract in October 2007 and has operated the mine since the transition from the previous mine owner and operator.

The contract will now run through to December 2011. Leighton Holdings earned just over $440 million in fiscal 09.
