Coal miner Aquila Resources Ltd
(ASX:AQA) says its wholly owned subsidiary Washpool Coal is to undertake a feasibility study for the Washpool Hard Coking Coal Project, a proposed open cut coal mine situated in the Bowen Basin, Central Queensland.
The company anticipates that the project will produce between 1.6 and 2 million tonnes per annum of product coking coal for export markets.
Aquila says work is continuing on the feasibility study in a number of areas including coal quality, infrastructure design and mining operations.
As part of the process, exploration drilling is also continuing on site to update the coal resources and reserves and will be completed in the first quarter of 2010.
Aquila says construction work is to begin in mid 2011 with production commencing in January 2012.
Aquila Resources posted a loss of $26 million for fiscal 2009.
