Pharmaxis (ASX:PXS) announces significant results for Phase III trial of Bronchitol

Company News

Pharmaceutical company Pharmaxis (ASX:PXS) has announced significant results for the second six month dosing of its international Phase III trial of Bronchitol in people with Cystic Fibrosis.

The company says the lung function of patients treated with Bronchitol for a full 12 months improved from 6.5% at six months to 8% at the end of the 12 month treatment.

In addition to this the company says the lung function of patients on placebo for the first six months of the study improved by 10.3% when switched to Bronchitol.

Bronchitol is designed to hydrate the airway surface of the lungs and promote normal lung mucus clearance.

CEO Dr Alan Robertson says these results are very impressive and are of significant clinical relevance. For cystic fibrosis patients the consistent loss of lung function is the leading cause of death.

Pharmaxis has posted net losses in the last five years.
