Silex solar demo points to bright future

Company News

Alternative energy company Silex Systems Limited (ASX:SLX) fully owned subsidiary Solar Systems has commenced demonstrative operation of Australia’s largest Solar Power Station in north west Victoria.

The station, more specifically, is a grid connected Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) facility with a fully operational capacity of 1.5 megawatts, enough to power 500 average households.

Silex CEO Dr Michael Goldsworthy says the commencement of demonstration operations is a significant milestone in the commercialization of Solar Systems CPV technology.

Dr Goldsworthy believes the technology has the commercial potential to provide very low cost electricity from solar power station projects planned for deployment around the world.

The Mildura Demonstration facility has been backed by both the Federal and Victorian state governments, with the latter issuing a $10 million funding package for its development.

Silex Systems posted an $8.4 million loss in the first half of the current financial year.
