Australian shares fell sharply on Thursday, with the S&P/ASX 200 down 161.6 points, or 1.81 per cent, to 8,749.8 at 12.05pm AEST. All 11 sectors traded lower as oil moved above US$101 a barrel and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Iran war faded.
