Oil and gas producer Santos Limited
(ASX:STO) is among seven mining and energy companies the Australian National University (ANU) has decided to sell because of its social responsibility policy.
The university has also decided to offload its interests in mineral sands miner Iluka Resources Limited
(ASX:ILU), mineral explorer Independence Group NL
(ASX:IGO), gold producer Newcrest Mining Limited
(ASX:NCM), copper and gold miner Sandfire Resources NL
(ASX:SFR), oil and gas developer Oil Search Limited
(ASX:OSH) and mineral explorer Sirius Resources NL
(ASX:SIR).
ANU says the stocks to be divested represent about 5.1 per cent of its equity holdings and about 1 per cent of its total investment holdings.
The university has made the move following an independent review of its domestic equities as part of its ‘Socially Responsible Investment Policy’.
Santos’ net profit fell 24 per cent to $206 million in the first half of the 2014 calendar year.
