ANZ Banking Group
(ASX:ANZ) has partnered with the Australian Government to expand mobile banking in Solomon Islands.
The bank says the deal is to support the increased roll out of mobile banking and financial literacy programs.
ANZ advises an extra 65,000 Solomon Islanders will receive the programs who were previously excluded from traditional banking services.
The Australian Government will provide extra funding to help ANZ improve access to phone banking in remote areas and deliver dedicated financial literacy training.
The bank claims about 70 per cent of people in the Solomon Islands don't have access to banking services.
ANZ CEO Mike Smith says the partnership will assist in accelerating banking services and improve the financial literacy of Solomon Islanders previously excluded from traditional banking.
ANZ Banking Group lifted its net profit to $3.38 billion in the first half of its 2014 financial year.
