(ASX:ANZ) chairman John Morschel says it is crazy for businesses not to have women account for half of their management teams.
Speaking about company culture at a function in Sydney, Mr Morschel said there is a tangible business case for ensuring gender diversity in the executive team.
He says companies need to encourage more women into all levels of management and boardroom roles, but that was only possible if more attention was paid to training and recruitment.
About 40 per cent of ANZ's employees are female, but in senior management that is only about 22 per cent.
ANZ Banking Group reported a net profit of $2.9 billion in the first half of its 2013 financial year.
