Qantas Airways’ Limited
(ASX:QAN)Jetstar Hong Kong faces mounting opposition from airlines protesting the budget carrier’s moves to launch services from the Asian hub.
A week after Cathay Pacific objected to Jetstar's plans, Hong Kong Airlines and its sister carrier Hong Kong Express confirmed they have also lodged filings against Jetstar’s application to start scheduled services.
Unlike Cathay, Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express have not publicly detailed reasons for their opposition.
Jetstar’s entry to Hong Kong would likely pose the biggest challenge to Chinese-backed Hong Kong Express, which is in the process of repositioning itself into a low-cost airline.
Jetstar Hong Kong is a joint venture between Qantas, China Eastern and Shun Tak Holdings.
Qantas generated a net profit of $6 million in fiscal 2013.
