Newcrest Mining Limited
(ASX:NCM) has received another legal challenge from rival exploration company Gold and Copper Resources Pty Ltd, bringing a total of five separate actions against the company.
The latest claim seeks to question the validity of two of the mining leases held by Newcrest for its Cadia Valley operations in central west NSW which were issued by former NSW Minister for Resources and Energy, Eddie Obeid.
The gold miner says Mr Obeid is attached to three out of the five claims and listed as the first respondent in the latest claim.
Newcrest says the latest court action is without merit and will vigorously defend all claims.
Newcrest Mining recorded a net profit of $1.2 billion in the 2012 financial year.
