Newcrest Mining Limited
(ASX:NCM) has announced a temporary reduction in plant capacity at its Lihir operation in Papua New Guinea.
The gold miner has reduced production to roughly 25 per cent of capacity due to an electrical issue in the main oxygen plant.
Maintenance personnel are working to restore full capacity which is expected to return within ten days.
The company says that the reduced operation will not impact the million ounce plant upgrade project which remains on schedule for December 2012.
Newcrest Mining generated a net profit of $1.2 billion for the 2012 financial year.
