Meridian Energy appoints new Chairman

Meridian Energy (ASX:MEZ) Chair Chris Moller will retire at the Company’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in October next year and Meridian’s directors have decided that he should be succeeded as Chair by current director Mark Verbiest.

Chris Moller has held the role of Chair since 2011 after joining the board in 2008.

Mark Verbiest was appointed to the Meridian Board in 2017 and is an experienced company director with a lengthy history of involvement in the energy sector.

He currently serves on the boards of a number of major companies, including as Chair of Freightways and as a director on ANZ Bank New Zealand (ASX:ANZ). He is also a former Chair of Transpower Limited and Chair of Spark New Zealand (ASX:SKI)

Meridian Energy is an electricity generator and retailer, generating the largest proportion of New Zealand's electricity.

Shares in Meridian (ASX:MEZ) closed 2.61 per cent higher at $3.15 yesterday.
