Newcrest Mining Limited’s (ASX:NCM) chief executive Greg Robinson says discussions with the Fijian government concerning the gold project there are progressing more slowly than hoped.
The miner says the company’s country manager in Fiji has held talks with the ruling military leader and remains in close contact with the community.
The delays are reportedly holding up a pre-feasibility study.
In the 2011 financial year Newcrest Mining’s net profit jumped to $966 million.
