The ACCC’s decision to slash the price Telstra Corporation Ltd
(ASX:TLS) can charge competitors to use its network could be good news for rural customers according to the Australian Financial Review.
The move is likely to improve broadband access in the bush. Four price targets have been consolidated down to two, cutting wholesale phone prices in regional areas in half.
The decision applies only to the telco’s traditional copper phone network and doesn’t directly affect the National Broadband Network.
In the first half of its 2011 financial year, Telstra recorded a net profit of $1.2 billion.
