ANZ stretches to subcontinent

The ANZ Banking Group (ASX:ANZ) has opened its first branch in India.

The bank said in a statement the branch will initially serve corporate and institutional clients and ANZ’s network clients.

The bank will be Mumbai-based and provide a full range of Indian Rupee and foreign currency banking services.

The licence to set up the branch was granted by the Reserve Bank of India last October.

The ANZ Banking Group reported a full year net profit of 2.67 billion in the period to the end of March 2011.
