Newcrest Mining Ltd
(ASX:NCM) is preparing to resume production at its Bonikro gold mine in Ivory Coast following a stabilising political and security situation after presidential elections in the West African country.
The gold miner says it has undertaken security assessments and no issues were experienced at the mine during the period of civil unrest, that has seen operations at Bonikro suspended for over two months.
Newcrest now advises that mine management are returning to the site and production is expected to start in early June, 2011.
The production impact is estimated at around 8,000 ounces of gold per month.
Newcrest Mining booked a net profit of $466 million, in the first half of its 2011 financial year.
