Sigma narrows FY loss, declares special dividend

Company News

Sigma Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:SIP) has nearly halved its full year net loss and announced it will pay shareholders a special dividend after selling its pharmaceuticals division.

In the year to 31 January 2011 the drug distributor’s net loss declined to $235 million, narrowing from $398 million the year before.

The latest result included a $258 million goodwill impairment charge against the sale of its drug manufacturing business.

Managing director Mark Hooper says while the net loss is disappointing, the company’s Healthcare Business continued to grow and remain stable despite the recent challenging times.

Sigma has declared a special fully-franked dividend of 15 cents per share.

In the six months to 31 July 2010, Sigma Pharmaceuticals booked a net loss of $218.5 million.
