ANZ NZ appoints ex NZ Prime Minister as Chair

ANZ (ASX:ANZ) has announced John Judge will stand down as Chair of ANZ Bank New Zealand, with the former New Zealand Prime Minister Sir John Key to take his seat.

The ex NZ Prime Minister will take the NZ helm in January 2018, while he joined the board today (18 October 2017).

John Key started his career in banking and finance, before heading up Global Foreign Exchange at Merrill Lynch. He has also been a member of the Fed Reserve Bank of New York.

He also received Australia’s highest honour, becoming a Companion of the Order of Australia for advancing the Australia and New Zealand bilateral relationship.

Outgoing John Judge has been on the ANZ New Zealand board since 2008 and Chair since 2012.

The company says in his time he oversaw the National Bank and ANZ brands and technology systems successfully merge in 2012.

Shares in ANZ (ASX:ANZ) closed about 0.60 per cent higher yesterday at $30.34.
