Losses on Wall street saw the local market dip on open but that soon turned around with the ASX up 0.2 per cent at midday.
After major losses last week, and with plenty of data to digest from the long weekend, the local market turned positive on buying of the banks which pushed the bourse back above the 5,500 point mark.
Meanwhile shares in Nine Entertainment plunged as investors reacted to Friday’s news of an earnings downgrade.
The S&P/ASX 200 index is 15 points up at 5,514. On the futures market the SPI is 10 points higher.
