Bluescope Steel Limited
(ASX:BSL) has confirmed that a fire that shut down its Waste Gas Cleaning Plant at the Port Kembla Steelworks has now been extinguished and recovery work has been commenced.
The fire started in an 80-metre stack on Monday night sending thick black clouds of smoke across Port Kembla. The stack partially collapsed.
The Environmental Protection Authority is assessing a plan to restart the plant, meanwhile the Steelworks continue to produce iron and steel.
The restarting of the plant is expected to cost Bluescope between $10 million and $12 million, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
Bluescope Steel reported a net loss of $40.2 million for full year to 30th June 2014.
