REX wins new routes by tender

Regional Express Holdings Limited (ASX:REX) has won five regulated routes from the Queensland State Government through a tender process. 
 
REX was already servicing two of the routes from Townsville to Longreach and Townsville to Mt Isa in Northern Queensland. 
 
Three other routes have been awarded, a Gulf route from Cairns to Mt Isa and Western Routes 1 & 2 across southern and western Qld which encompass a number of stops from Brisbane to Birdsville. 
 
General Manager of Network Strategy Mr Warrick Lodge said, ‘REX is honoured to be selected by the Queensland State Government to provide these essential services that provide critical linkages between Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville to 20 regional communities that span the entire state’. 
 
Mr Lodge also said that REX was committed to keeping as many of the incumbent staff and agents on the new routes as possible.
 
Regional Express recorded a net profit of $7.7 million for the full year ended 30th June 2014.
