Qantas launches largest aircraft on longest route

Company News

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) has launched the world’s largest passenger aircraft on the world’s longest route.

Australia’s biggest airline will now offer non-stop A380 services between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth with a flying time of almost 16 hours.

CEO Alan Joyce says the A380 will increase seats on the route by more than 10 per cent each week and provide greater fuel efficiency.

Mr Joyce says Dallas/Fort Worth is home to Qantas’ partner American Airlines and the perfect hub for both business and leisure travellers.

The launch came as the airline reported a 3.2 per cent rise in total passenger numbers for August.

Qantas Airways extended its net loss to $2.8 billion in the full 2014 financial year.
