ACCC sues Woolworths over unsafe products

Company News

Woolworths Limited (ASX:WOW) is being sued by Australia’s competition regulator for selling a range of faulty products understood to be unsafe.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) alleges Woolies made false or misleading claims about the safety of three Woolworths home brand products. Products highlighted include a stainless steel deep fryer, drain cleaner and safety matches.

The ACCC has also alleged the retailing giant made false or misleading claims about the weight capacity of a padded flop chair and folding stepping stool.

The matter has been set down for a hearing in the Federal Court of Australia on November 4, 2014.

Woolworths reported a net profit of $2.45 billion in the full 2014 financial year.
