NewSat Limited (ASX:NWT) has successfully launched its satellite carrying the Jabiru-2 payload.
The satellite communications company says this is the 61st successful launch for the Ariane 5 launch vehicle.
The Jabiru-2 is aimed at satisfying growing demand for communications and will provide coverage across Australia, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
CEO, Adrian Ballintine, says the launch is further evidence of NewSat maturing as a company and another milestone as it expands into a global satellite provider.
NewSat reported a net profit of $701,000 in the 2014 financial year.
