Telstra extends trials of next generation 4G

Company News

Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) says it will be ready to trial the next generation of 4G services in Sydney and Adelaide from September.

Once switched on, selected pockets of the two cities will be able to access the fastest mobile speed in Australia after Telstra secured early access to the 700MHz spectrum.

Trials of the new spectrum are already underway in six other cities including Perth, Mildura and Griffith. The use of low band spectrum allows the signal to travel further and reach deeper into buildings.

Telstra has double the holdings of the new spectrum than other carriers with a range of smart phones and mobile devices compatible with the new technology.

In the 2014 financial year, Telstra reported a net profit of $4.34 billion.
