Telstra faces class action for late fees

Company News

Australia’s biggest telecommunications company Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) is facing legal action over late payment fees.

ACA Lawyers says late payment fees are an unlawful penalty and will launch a class action against Telstra to recover late payment fees on behalf of customers.

The action alleges customers are entitled to be reimbursed for the fees they have been forced to pay their telcos which exceed the true cost to the service provider.

Harbour Litigation Funding will cover the legal costs of the class action and if successful be entitled to a percentage of the awarded damages.

ACA Lawyers has also proposed launching a class action against both Optus and Vodafone and expects to soon announce funding arrangements for these claims.

Last week Telstra revealed a 14.6 per cent jump in its annual profit, rising to $4.3 billion in the 2014 financial year.
