Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) has unveiled its annual tender of rare red and pink coloured diamonds. The global miner’s Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender was previewed in Sydney and viewing will be held in New York, Hong Kong and Perth ahead of bids closing on October 8.
The collection showcases 55 diamonds, including 51 pink and purplish red diamonds and four Fancy Red diamonds, and is expected to attract global demand.
Rio Tinto has described a 1.21 carat radiant cut Fancy Red diamond named Argyle Cardinal as the hero of the collection and reports suggest it could fetch more than $US2 million.
The company says it continues to see sustained demand and price growth for Argyle pink diamonds.
Rio Tinto reported a net profit of $4.5 billion in the first half of the 2014 calendar year.
