Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) is improving its 4G coverage ahead of rolling out more services next year. Australia’s largest telco has advised it will start commercial trials of 4G services on the 700 megahertz (MHz) spectrum and switch on ultra-fast 4G Advanced technology.
The company says its customers in Perth, Fremantle, Esperance, Mildura, Mt Isa and Griffith will be the first to experience the next generation of 4G services.
Telstra will conduct commercial trials at the locations ahead of rolling out more 4G 700 megahertz services in cities and regional centres from January 2015.
The telco advises the spectrum operates at a lower frequency to offer customers better 4G coverage in buildings, lifts and car parks.
4G Advanced technology is expected to provide customers double the speeds they currently experience on the 4G network, plus better 4G coverage.
Telstra Corporation reported a net profit of $1.7 billion in the first half of its 2014 financial year.
