Atlas Iron Limited
(ASX:AGO) has welcomed the official opening of its Mt Webber mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The iron ore miner says the opening follows the start of mining activity in December 2013 and crushing and screening operations last month.
Atlas Iron advises haulage operations are expected to start this week and production is expected to ramp up to 6 million tonnes per annum by the end of this year.
Mt Webber is the company’s fifth mine it has developed and Atlas says it will now focus on the optimisation of production across all is mines and driving down costs further.
The news comes less than a week after Atlas announced it has shipped a record 10.9 million tonnes in the full 2014 financial year to beat its annual output guidance.
Atlas Iron reported a net profit of $73.7 million in the first half of the 2014 financial year.
