Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX:WHC) has been hit with another legal challenge concerning its Maules Creek mine in New South Wales.
The coal miner has been served with a summons on behalf of the Maules Creek Community Council who remain opposed to the project.
The summons is seeking to stop clearance activities in the mining areas of the project until early next year.
Whitehaven Coal says it will be vigorously defending the proceedings on the basis that it has approvals.
The company has affirmed construction and clearance activities for the project remain on schedule for first coal to be railed in March 2015.
Whitehaven Coal reported a net loss of $11.6 million in the first half of the 2014 financial year.
