Telstra sets sights on Asian expansion

Company News

Telstra Corporation Limited’s (ASX:TLS) CEO David Thodey says the company wants to be a great company in Asia.

The chief of Australia’s largest telco spoke at a Committee for Economic Development of Australia business lunch yesterday.

Telstra has already partnered with Telecom Indonesia but has plans to continue expanding into the region. The company is aiming to generate one-third of its profits overseas over the next five years.

At the time of Telstra’s AGM Mr Thodey said Telstra would make strategic investments across Asia, such as new data centres in Singapore and cloud-enabled nodes in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Telstra Corporation reported a net profit of $1.7 billion in the first half of its 2014 financial year.
