Rio Tinto appoints new aluminium boss

Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO, LON:RIO) has appointed a new boss to its aluminium business to replace Jacynthe Côté who is departing for personal reasons to pursue other interests.
 
The global miner says Alfredo Barrios will be the new chief executive of its aluminium arm and will join the company from June 1, 2014.  

Mr Barrios comes from BP where he held the position of executive director and executive vice president downstream at the TNK-BP joint venture. 

Mr Barrios joined BP in 1992 and has held senior leadership roles in the UK, US, Russia and continental Europe.

Outgoing aluminium chief Jacynthe Côté will hold an advisory role until September 1, 2014 and Mr Barrios will be based in Montreal. 
 
Rio Tinto swung from an annual loss to a profit of $1.2 billion in the 2013 calendar year.
