Qantas push job cuts

Company News

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) will shed 2,200 jobs by the end of June this year.

The announcement was part of the airline’s presentation at the Macquarie Australian conference which focussed on a restructure that hopes to create $2 billion in gross savings by 2017 and to reduce debt by $1 billion by 2015.

The details of the restructure come on the back of the company’s swing to a first half loss which was announced in February, and which foreshadowed the job cuts.

Qantas Airways reported a net loss of $235 million in the first half of the 2014 financial year.
