Mine incident for Oceana Gold

Gold producer Oceana Gold (ASX:OGC)  is reporting an incident in its Macraes Open Pit mine on Easter Sunday. In a statement the company says heavy rainfall caused a section of the west wall to fail but no personnel were working in the open pit at the time. 

The slide did cut off access to the underground section of the mine however all underground personnel were brought safely to the surface with no injuries. 

Production from the open pit been suspended while investigations into the incident take place. The miner has already begun work to re-establish access to the underground operation and expects to resume work there by the end of the week. 

Ore processing is unaffected with ore currently being drawn from stockpiles. The company expects minimal impact on production in the short term. 

Oceana Gold reported a net loss of $53.48 million for the period ended 31 December, 2013
