Rio Tinto awards Brierty JV roads contract

Global miner Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) has awarded civil and mining contractor Brierty Limited (ASX:BYL) and its joint venture partner a $9.9 million contract. 
 
Under the contract the Brierty and Karlayura joint venture will construct about 11 kilometres of access roads at the Rio Tinto West Angelas Mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.   
 
The eight month project will start this month and include pavement upgrade works for main access, village and airport access roads. 
 
Ahead of the announcement being released on the eve of the Easter long weekend shares in Rio Tinto ended the trading week steady at $63.37. 
 
Earlier in the week the company confirmed its annual production guidance after reporting increased iron ore output in the first three months of 2014.
 
Rio Tinto swung from an annual loss to a profit of $1.2 billion in the 2013 calendar year.
