Biennale of Sydney ends Transfield partnership

Company News

Engineering company Transfield Services Limited (ASX:TSE) will no longer be associated with The Biennale of Sydney after the international festival of contemporary art cut ties with the company.

The Biennale’s board decided to end its partnership with Transfield amid controversy surrounding the company’s involvement in Australia’s offshore detention centres.

Transfield scored a $1.22 billion government contract to work on offshore processing centres on Nauru and Manus Island at the end of last month.

Following the contract award The Biennale was bombarded with calls to boycott the event because of sponsorship received from Transfield.

As a result The Biennale’s Chairman who is also an executive director of Transfield Holdings, Luca Belgiorno-Nettis, also announced his decision to resign as Chairman at the end of last week.

Transfield Services reported a net profit of $4.8 million in the first half of its 2014 financial year.
