BHP increases first half profit

BHP Billiton Limited (ASX:BHP) has increased underlying attributable profit by 31 per cent to $7.8 billion for the first half of Fiscal 2014.

Underlying EBIT also increased by 15 per cent to $12.4 billion.

The results topped first half guidance and CEO Andrew McKenzie haled the company’s improvements in productivity and volumes from a reduced cost base.
