AUKING MINING LIMITED (ASX: AKN) has announced a binding term sheet to acquire up to a 75% interest in the Qeqertaasaq niobium and rare earth project in western Greenland. AuKing Mining Limited is an Australian-based minerals exploration company focused on developing a portfolio of high-quality projects across critical and other commodities. This advanced exploration opportunity covers a substantial 3x5km carbonatite complex, positioning AuKing in West Greenland’s important niobium and rare earths province. The earn-in agreement requires no upfront payment, with AuKing committing to €10,000,000 in exploration funding over six years, allowing for a risk-managed entry.

The Qeqertaasaq Project boasts significant historical exploration data, including high-grade assay results. Surface samples reached up to 11.8% Nb2O5 and 12.3% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO). Past drilling campaigns reported impressive intercepts, such as 15.9m @ 0.80% Nb2O5 from 3.6m in shallow holes and 84.37m @ 0.51% Nb2O5 from 13.35m in deeper drilling. Rare earth mineralisation, with peak trenching values of 13.23% TREO, was also identified. Mineralisation remains open in all directions. AuKing cautions these historical results have not been reported under JORC Code 2012 and have not been independently validated by the company.

This strategic transaction aligns with increasing international focus on Greenland’s critical mineral endowment. The project benefits from excellent year-round logistics, with ice-free access and helicopter proximity to major airports. Preliminary metallurgical tests from 2011 showed promising rapid leaching and over 80% TREO recovery from coarsely crushed REE mineralisation. AuKing is well-funded to pursue this while continuing its Tundulu Rare Earths Project in Malawi. The earn-in’s commencement is conditional on ASX confirmation regarding listing rules compliance, reflecting AuKing’s prudent approach to project acquisition.
