Cynata Therapeutics Limited (ASX: CYP) today confirmed it has secured an extension to the maturity date of its Research and Development Tax Incentive (R&D TI) loan facility. The Australian clinical-stage stem cell and regenerative medicine company, which is dedicated to developing innovative therapies based on its proprietary Cymerus™ stem cell platform technology, announced that the new repayment deadline for the facility has been set for 30 November 2026. This marks an extension from the previously agreed 30 September 2026, obtained through mutual agreement with its commercial lender. Cymerus™ notably aims to overcome challenges and limitations in conventional mesenchymal stem cell production by utilising induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for economic and commercial-scale manufacturing of cell therapy products.

The company initially entered into the R&D TI loan facility, amounting to $600,000, with a commercial lender on 6 July 2026. This financial arrangement was established to provide interim funding, anticipating the future receipt of its R&D tax rebate. According to the terms of the agreement, the loan is required to be repaid in its entirety upon the earlier of two conditions: the successful receipt of the R&D TI rebate for the 2026 financial year, or the specified maturity date of the facility.

Cynata Therapeutics has advised that it has already submitted its comprehensive R&D TI claim and corresponding tax return for the 2026 financial year. The company projects an R&D TI rebate of approximately $1.7 million, which it expects to receive imminently. Upon the successful processing and receipt of these anticipated funds, the $600,000 loan, along with any accrued interest, will be settled in full. The remaining balance from the rebate will then be retained by the company for general corporate purposes, bolstering its financial position as it continues its development pipeline. This extension provides an important buffer as the company awaits the finalisation of its rebate.
