Cobalt Blue Holdings Limited (ASX: COB), a minerals processing and mining company developing an integrated mine and midstream processing platform for cobalt in Australia and advancing a copper-silver-zinc project, has announced it has entered into a contract with its consortium partner Glomar Minerals LLC. The agreement formalises Cobalt Blue’s contribution to a Preliminary Economic Analysis (PEA) for Project Infinity, a planned US-based polymetallic nodule refinery. This engagement highlights the ongoing collaboration between the two entities in developing critical mineral supply chains.
Under the PEA contract, Cobalt Blue will be responsible for delivering key technical workstreams essential for evaluating Project Infinity’s technical and economic feasibility. The scope of work includes metallurgical testwork, process flowsheet development, capital and operating cost estimation, and US site evaluation activities. This proprietary processing technology and capabilities will be applied at Cobalt Blue’s Broken Hill Technology Centre. For its contributions, Cobalt Blue is set to receive US$150,000, with the PEA currently targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. Cobalt Blue CEO Dr Andrew Tong noted the contract as a “next step in the growing relationship with Glomar,” formalising initial work programs.
Project Infinity represents a consortium effort between Glomar and Cobalt Blue to establish and operate the first commercial polymetallic nodule refinery in the United States. The initiative assesses the potential for an integrated business model encompassing the harvesting, processing, and sale of manganese, copper, nickel, and cobalt derived from polymetallic nodules. This project directly aligns with US national strategies aimed at establishing secure and resilient critical minerals supply chains, leveraging Glomar’s extensive experience in seabed polymetallic nodule exploration.
