Rubicon Water Limited (ASX: RWL), an Australian water technology solutions company that develops and provides automated control systems for gravity-fed irrigation networks to improve water efficiency and productivity, has announced its technology has been selected for a significant irrigation modernisation project in Morocco. The Office Régional de Mise en Valeur Agricole du Tadla (ORMVAT), a Moroccan Government agency, publicly confirmed the joint venture bid incorporating approximately A$12 million of Rubicon solutions as the chosen contractor for the Tadla region project. This selection follows comprehensive administrative, technical, and financial assessments by the agency.
The project, located in Morocco’s strategically important Tadla agricultural region, aims to modernise the regulation and operation of the main canals serving the 69,600-hectare Béni Moussa irrigation perimeter. Rubicon’s scope will include its Total Channel Control™ (TCC™) technology, automated canal regulation gates, communications infrastructure, and the NeuroFlo™ software platform. This system will provide real-time monitoring and autonomous control of canal flows, safeguarding investments in the 27,000 hectares already converted to pressurised drip irrigation by ensuring more stable, accurate, and responsive water delivery. Under Moroccan tender law, a statutory 15-day appeal period is now in effect, after which formal contract execution is anticipated.
Upon successful contract execution and commissioning, this project will become a crucial reference site for Rubicon in Morocco and across North Africa, demonstrating the application of its technology to large-scale gravity-fed irrigation network modernisation. The contract, denominated in euros with secure payment terms, represents Rubicon’s largest contract to date in the EMEA region and its second-largest single contract outside Australia. Rubicon CEO Bruce Rodgerson expressed delight, stating the selection is an important endorsement of Rubicon’s technology and its partners’ capability to deliver major irrigation modernisation projects, and noted the company is already pursuing further opportunities in the region.
