FirstWave Cloud Technology Limited (ASX: FCT) today announced it has filed a provisional patent application with IP Australia for an innovative AI-driven network monitoring and fault diagnosis system. FirstWave, a global software company formed in 2004, is a leading provider of enterprise-grade, AI-powered network management, automation, audit, and cybersecurity software used by over 150,000 organisations across 178 countries. The application, titled “Network Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis System,” was filed on 3 September 2026, with FirstWave as the sole applicant and owner of the invention (provisional patent application number 2026907532).
This strategic move aims to strengthen FirstWave’s fastest-growing revenue stream, network monitoring, which saw a 34% increase to A$6.9 million in FY26. The patented technology utilises a multi-agent AI system, orchestrated by large language models, to deliver automated and explainable root cause diagnosis. This addresses common issues of false positives and limited explainability in existing monitoring tools. The system is already a commercial product, with FirstWave preparing for its launch either as new upsell features or a standalone module, directly responding to demand from key clients like John Deere and Telmex.
The technology extends FirstWave’s existing NMIS, opEvents, and opCharts products, integrating seamlessly with customers’ current data. Network engineers will interact with the AI through a conversational interface, directing investigations and approving fixes, with each approved solution contributing to a growing operational knowledge base, fostering the development of self-healing networks. FirstWave CEO Danny Maher stated, “Network monitoring is our largest and fastest-growing revenue line and this patent is a deliberate decision to put AI at the centre of it.” The invention emerged from a collaborative research effort with the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) and CSIRO, supported by CSIRO’s Regional University Industry Collaboration (RUIC) program.
