Challenger Gold Limited (ASX: CEL) announced on 13 August 2026 a decisive update for its Hualilán Gold Project in San Juan Province, Argentina. Challenger Gold Limited is a gold explorer and developer focused on its 100%-owned Hualilán Gold Project. Following an operational review, the company reaffirmed its strategic rationale to advance Hualilán towards a larger, integrated mine and processing development. This pathway is bolstered by an A$85 million equity raising and significant strengthening of its leadership team.

The review confirmed Hualilán as a robust development asset, supported by a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) outlining a 14.25-year mine life, 1.84 million ounces of gold equivalent (AuEq) production target, and an average annual production of 135,000 AuEq. The PFS projected a pre-tax NPV5 of US$1.45 billion and a post-tax NPV5 of US$1.10 billion (at US$3,500/oz gold). Challenger has also commenced a 35,000-metre diamond drilling program, the first in over three years, aimed at resource growth. The company is transitioning from a third-party toll treatment model to an integrated mining and processing operation, applying early operational learnings to improve cost control.

An A$85 million equity raising, supported by existing and new institutional investors including Peter Marrone, will fund resource drilling, feasibility work, and development preparation. Peter Marrone has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman, alongside new Chief Operating Officer Yohann Bouchard, Chief Financial Officer Felipe Riquelme, and VP Project and Strategic Planning Luke Buchanan. This enhanced leadership and capital injection aim to accelerate Hualilán towards construction readiness in 2027 and stand-alone production in early 2029, subject to regulatory processes. This strategic reset is designed to convert learnings into a clearer development plan and stronger execution capability.
