Fortescue worker safety investigation

Company News

Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX:FMG) is the subject of a worker safety investigation by the West Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum, according to media reports.

The department has reportedly confirmed it’s investigating four worker safety incidents at the company’s Solomon Hub mine in the Pilbara region, including an occasion when three people were in a blast exclusion zone.

The investigation comes after news of two deaths at Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine last year.

Fortescue chief executive Nev Power told media the company was working with its 10,000 workers to ensure they understand that health and safety is its highest priority.

Fortescue Metals Group reported a net profit of $1.9 billion in the 2013 financial year.
