Myer offers free postage after website crash

Company News

With its website still offline after it crashed on Boxing Day Myer Holdings Limited (ASX:MYR) has gone into repair mode to compensate frustrated customers.

The department store retailer will offer internet shoppers free postage and more online discounts when its website gets back into action.

CEO Bernie Brookes has joined the company’s social media voice in apologising for the technical glitch which crashed the site on Australia’s biggest shopping day of the year.

While Myer claims only 1 per cent of its annual $2.8 billion in sales are generated online Mr Brookes has conceded the latest outage is a blow to the company’s reputation as it strives to expand its online offering.

Mr Brookes has told media Myer’s technical team are working with IBM in the US to identify the root cause of the problem which is understood to have been caused by a bug in the system causing the server to crash.

Myer Holdings reported a net profit of almost $130 million in the 2013 financial year.
